Pictures from the 2008 Baron Training Conference
Storm Tracker extraordinaire, Dr. Joshua Wurman, Ph.D.—from the Center for Severe Weather Research and the Discovery Channel's popular "Storm Chasers" program—was the keynote speaker on Friday, Sep. 5th.  During his entertaining and informative address, Josh highlighted his use of Baron's Mobile Threat Net and how important it is to his research in the field: "I use the Mobile Threat Net during our tornado and hurricane intercept missions because of its near 100% uptime.  We can count on Mobile Threat Net to get us data even when cell phones and internet are down."

Following up on their successful 2007 season, the Storm Chasers are back with new vehicles, new teams and new tactics. Dr. Josh Wurman and his team's DOWThe 2008 tornado season nearly set a record for tornado outbreaks and our determined band of chasers pulled out all the stops to break their own records for intercepts. Sure there were challenges, but with double the number of chase vehicles—and much more mobility and range—the Storm Chasers got the job done like never before.

You don't want to miss the fierce—but mostly friendly—competition for the most tornado encounters that develops early in the season, as the newest chaser, Reed Timmer pits his light and loose style of chasing against the heavyweight, methodical approach of Dr. Josh Wurman and his team, powered in part by Baron's Mobile Threat Net (see pic below). Dr. Josh Wurman and his team's DOWPlus, the baddest chase machine around, the 8-tonned, 10-wheeled TIV2, makes its debut as extreme filmmaker Sean Casey continues his quest for the ultimate IMAX intercept footage. And best of all, you've got a front-row seat to some of the most awesome tornadoes ever captured in HD.

So strap yourself into that armchair and join the chase with Storm Chasers, only on the Discovery Channel, Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT starting Oct 19.
