Integrated System for Meteorological Surveillance
The Baron Meteorological Forecast System is a comprehensive, turn-key meteorological analysis and localized alerting system. As an intrinsic part of the
SIMIN project undertaken by Lockheed Martin, Harris Corporation and Baron Services, it has already been deployed in the country of Romania.
The system ingests and processes data from an array of exterior sources, including:
- Doppler radar (new or legacy)
- Lightning detection networks
- Rain gauges
- Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models
- Satellite imagery
The resulting data is ingested into a data server located in the central operations center, where it is applied to Baron’s proprietary COBRA® algorithms, FutureScan® technology,
and rain gauge correction. A national composite is also generated. Through this process, a number of value-added data products for flooding, wind shear, hail and more are integrated into
the data set, where they will aid in the facilitation of improved warning times and public alerting.
From there, the data is shipped to OmniWxTrac® and VIPIR® displays, both in the operations center and at remote sites. Threat Net™ displays can be deployed in public locations
and emergency management offices for the dissemination of weather information to aid in situational awareness.
SAF-T-Net® alerting can also be used to deliver localized severe weather and flooding alerts to public subscribers over a range of wireless and Internet-based communication devices,
such as cell phones, e-mail and pagers.
