Storm Cell Identification and Tracking (SCITs)
  • Automated and “Man-in-the-Loop” Storm Tracking
  • Updated as often as every 2.5 minutes
  • Pinpoints areas of wind shear and severe storm activity
  • Far greater severe weather timeliness and specificity
  • Powered by COBRA®

Baron’s patented COBRA algorithms generate highly accurate SCIT (Storm Cell Identification and Tracking) indicators. Baron-processed SCITs automatically pinpoint the most intense areas of a storm. By clicking on them, meteorologists instantly create storm tracks with estimated times of storm arrival in areas of interest.

SCITs also provide a wealth of information on storm attributes, and possess extreme timeliness and accuracy. The Storm Cell Identification and Tracking feature can be displayed and operated in both OmniWxTrac® and VIPIR®.

Severe Weather Module™

  • Pinpoints cyclonic circulations
  • Displays the size and location of potential hail
  • Isolates areas with the greatest potential for wind damage, hail and flooding
  • 2D or 3D display
  • Powered by COBRA®

An exclusive, all-in-one data set designed to detect areas of wind shear, hail and potential flooding, Severe Weather Module processes multi-level Doppler radar data, enhancing it with Baron’s patented COBRA® algorithms. The result is far greater precision when it comes to determining the threats presented by approaching storms.

Wind circulations in excess of 50 knots are easily identified in the display with rotating icons called shear markers. These allow meteorologists to see with a quick glance where tornadic development is most likely.

The VIL Density feature examines the hail contents of storms, revealing with great precision the size and location of hail.

The third feature of this module, the Baron Button, acts as an indicator of the greatest threats in a storm, pinpointing the areas of most intense rainfall, strongest winds and most damaging hail—all in a single graphic.

With Severe Weather Module, meteorologists can pixel-query any of these features, labeling storm characteristics on the mapping display. The innovative science behind COBRA and Severe Weather Module lends itself to an increased accuracy that is imperative during severe weather outbreaks.

The data is available for display in both OmniWxTrac® and VIPIR®.
