Baron Services was the first to deliver high-resolution Level II NEXRAD to the broadcast community. An indispensable data format when used in our VIPIR and FasTrac displays, Baron Level II reveals NEXRAD in its true colors—boasting 256 color levels. That means 16 times the resolution of conventional Level III reflectivity and 256 times the resolution of Level III velocity.
In addition, when used with VIPIR, the data delivers 14 tilt levels and 16 sweeps (lower elevations are sampled twice). The VIPIR display can either present each elevation separately, or reveal the entire volume at once, effectively creating a real-time 3D model of the atmosphere.
Baron Level II comes to you as a result of the partnership between Baron Advanced Meteorological Systems (BAMS) and the Education and Research Consortium (ERC) in Asheville, NC. And due to Baron’s expansive networking infrastructure, this Level II feed possesses full redunancy from separate distribution sites, ensuring reliable data delivery, sweep after sweep.
