Scientific Technologist - 2/1/08
Baron Services, located in Huntsville, AL, currently has an opening for a Scientific Technologist. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in Meteorology and have strong programming skills. The Baron Group of Companies is a fast-paced environment and candidates must be capable of working under tight deadlines and with physically-distributed groups.
A Masters or PhD in Meteorology from an accredited program is required in addition to at least three years of experience in mesoscale now-casting/forecasting (prefer experience with MM5 and/or WRF). The ideal candidate will have significant experience with the mesoscale data assimilation problem and possess a strong grasp of the current state-of-the-science in that area. It is also required that the applicant be familiar with a wide range of environmental data sources and have a deep understanding of operational data quality checks.
A competent technical working knowledge of both the Linux and Windows operating systems is a must. Candidate must also have a strong ability to write, interpret and maintain Linux shell/Perl/PHP scripts. Competency with C and/or C++ is a definite plus. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing is highly important. Though not essential, previous exposure to and experience supporting a 24x7 mission-critical operation would be valuable.
